
Independent Living Skills (ILS) Program
Our Independent Living Skills (ILS) Program helps individuals with developmental disabilities build essential daily living skills for greater independence and confidence. Through hands-on learning and creative art activities, students develop self-care, communication, money management, and work readiness skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.
ILS Curriculum Overview
Weeks 1–2: Self-Care & Personal Responsibility
• Personal hygiene and workspace organization
• Wearing appropriate clothing and safety awareness
• Identifying and caring for personal belongings
• Art Activity: Create a personal ceramic cup or soap dish
Weeks 3–4: Meal Preparation & Kitchen Safety
• Understanding simple cooking steps
• Kitchen safety (hot items, sharp tools)
• Cleaning dishes and organizing shared spaces
• Art Activity: Create ceramic plates or bowls
Weeks 5–6: Money Management & Shopping Skills
• Identifying coins and bills
• Reading price tags and making choices
• Understanding needs vs. wants
• Art Activity: Mini market role-play using student-made items
Weeks 7–8: Community & Transportation Skills
• Street and pedestrian safety
• Asking for help appropriately
• Basic understanding of public transportation
• Art Activity: Create clay community signs and maps
Weeks 9–10: Social Skills & Communication
• Greeting others and taking turns
• Expressing needs, feelings, and choices
• Practicing respectful behavior and teamwork
• Art Activity: Emotion tiles, masks, and group projects
Weeks 11–12: Work Readiness & Responsibility
• Following instructions and completing tasks
• Time awareness and basic work habits
• Taking pride in finished work
• Art Activity: Final ceramic project and simple presentation
